From May 26 to 28, the 3rd Exhibition of Technology and Education in Civil Aviation was held at the Beijing National Convention Center. Shenling, in partnership with Chongqing Airport Group and Qingling Motors, jointly unveiled China’s first electric vehicle-mounted PCA unit.
The electric vehicle-mounted PCA unit is a fully electric, mobile climate control system featuring Shenling’s direct evaporative cooling and ice storage technologies. By leveraging pre-cooling energy stored from electricity, it delivers near-zero emissions during operation, significantly reducing aviation fuel consumption and carbon output, and enhancing environmental sustainability at airports.
Powered by low electricity consumption, the PCA unit operates for up to 2 hours on a single charge, effectively replacing the aircraft’s Auxiliary Power Unit (APU). Compared to traditional APUs, it cuts operating costs by 60%, delivering annual savings of over 1 million RMB per unit. Additionally, it reduces noise levels and maintains a stable cabin temperature, greatly enhancing passenger comfort during ground operations.
Compatible with mainstream Code C aircraft, including Boeing and Airbus models, the PCA unit offers plug-and-play functionality for seamless integration into daily operations at remote stands and small to medium-sized airports. It also delivers rapid response in cases of APU failure or extreme weather. Beyond aviation, the system can also be used for emergency response, pandemic control and temporary event support.
The PCA unit has received the Special Equipment Approval Notice from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) and has been officially deployed at Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport for operational use. Looking ahead, Shenling will actively promote its adoption across additional airports, aiming to deliver a greener, more sustainable and comfortable travel experience for passengers, contributing to the future of low-carbon aviation.
